OC Sheriff’s Office announces Activities for Law Enforcement Officer Appreciation Week

The week of May 11-15 is recognized as Law Enforcement Officers Appreciation Week and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has events planned to commemorate this important week. The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting its second annual Retired Law Enforcement Officers Appreciation Luncheon on May 14. Any retired local, state, tribal or federal law enforcement officers who currently reside in Oconee County are welcome to attend this luncheon, which will be held from 12:30pm until 1:30pm on the second floor of the Law Enforcement Center at 300 South Church Street in Walhalla. This luncheon is for reserved guests only, so for more information or to RSVP, please contact Tonya Massey with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office at 864-638-4117. May 14 is also the day for the annual Schuck Memorial Blood Drive, which will be held from 11am until 7pm in the gravel parking lot behind the Oconee County Law Enforcement Center at 300 South Church Street in Walhalla. The blood drive is held in honor of the late Sheriff’s Office Deputy Bill Schuck, who died in the line of duty on Feb. 7, 2010. The Blood Connection will be conducting the blood drive this year, will have free t-shirts for donors, and will be taking donations. Also, memorial t-shirts will be on sale with proceeds going towards the Schuck Memorial Scholarship, which goes towards tuition support for a high school student in the law enforcement program at the Hamilton Career Center who plans to continue their education in a college or university degree program that can be used in a law enforcement career. The memorial t-shirts will be on sale on a first come, first serve basis the day of the blood drive for $10 each with sizes 2x and 3x shirts selling for $12 each. On May 15, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office celebrates Peace Officers Memorial Day by flying the flags outside the Sheriff’s Office at half-staff.
