OC Sheriff’s Office finds Suspicious Device

Monday morning, deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office  were alerted to a possible suspicious device at Stumphouse Tunnel. A hiker notified deputies after coming across the device near the middle tunnel.  The Anderson County Bomb Squad was notified to do an evaluation of the device. It was later determined that the device was not suspicious in nature and no ordinance was found with the device.  The Bomb Squad made it to the gate at Stumphouse Tunnel, but once the determination was made that the device was not suspicious, they were called from the scene. The device was a bat research device from Clemson University.  The device presents no threat to the public.
