OC Sheriff’s Office hosting Leadership Challenge Camp

This week, 30 boys are learning leadership and team building skills at the inaugural Leadership Challenge Camp presented by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. “This is really for at-risk adolescent young males and boys.” From 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, these at-risk boys interact with officers in a fun setting while learning about setting and accomplishing goals. Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt said School Resource Officers and the School District of Oconee County coordinate the free camp. “Charles Mulwee is our School Resource Officer who works in our elementary schools. John Pearson, Jay Freeman and Norman Dukes, who are the SROs at West-Oak High, West-Oak Middle and Tamassee-Salem Middle/High, respectively. This Sheriff’s Office Leadership Camp being hosted by not only the SROs that I mention but also Lt. Mark Lyles with the Sheriff’s Office who is over the SROs and Evie Hughes with the School District. We have a lot of great sponsors also.” Next year, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to offer a second camp for girls.
