OC Sheriff’s Office investigating Seneca Area Shooting

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is investigation a shooting that occurred at an address in the Seneca area that left one person dead. A deputy responded to an address on Lands End Road during the early morning hours Wednesday in regards to a shooting incident. When deputies arrived, they discovered a male subject lying inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the upper torso with two individuals inside the home rendering aid. Deputies were told that the shot that struck the victim came from another part of the house and not in the room that the victim was in. Deputies were informed that the individual who fired the weapon was reportedly showing the weapon to someone else when the weapon discharged. That individual then left the scene before deputies arrived. The case has been turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division and at this time, no charges or arrests have taken place in this investigation, which remains ongoing. Since no charges have been filed in the case at this time, the name of the individual who discharged the weapon will not be released. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis identified the deceased as 43-year-old Jason Edward Dalton of the Lands End Road address. “Since this case remains under investigation, no further information on this case will be released at this time,” said Captain Greg Reed of the Criminal Investigations Division.
