OC Sheriff’s Office participating in 10th National Prescription Drug Take Back

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is participating in the 10th National Prescription Drug Take-Back on Sept. 26. The event will take place from 10am until 2pm as deputies will be stationed at the Law Enforcement Center at 300 South Church Street in Walhalla and the Sheriff’s Office substation on the campus of Oconee Memorial Hospital, which is near the Emergency Department. Deputies will be collecting medication and vitamins in liquid and prescription form during the event with the medication being disposed of properly so its contents will not end up in the hands of children or in places where the environment will be damaged. The collection of these medications is also important due to abuse of prescription drugs as well as the potential for poisonings and overdoses. So far, in 2015, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has collected around 582 pounds of pills and 245 pounds of liquid medication.
