OC still working on Signage Plan

More signs are coming to Oconee County. Motorists traveling through the Golden Corner of South Carolina may have noticed new signs promoting outdoor attractions along the side of major highways. Oconee County Parks, Recreation and Tourism director Phil Shirley says more signs are coming soon. “This was actually just Phase One, we’ve got some other things planned coming out with signage but we’ve got a lot of work to do. We want to take advantage of those who are passing through. We do realize that we are a pass through county also for some visitors heading to the mountains but we want to take advantage of that any way we can and if we have the right signage up it will cause them to turn off and check out a new destination. So, we have been pleased with that but there is lots of work to be done still on our signage plan.” More signs providing information and directions to outdoor sites are scheduled to go up later this year promoting the waterfalls, mountains and lakes. Tourism contributes more than $52 million a year to Oconee County’s economy, according to the latest figures from the State Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, while supporting 430 local jobs.
