Oconee County Council Meeting Tonight

The Oconee County Council will hold its first regular meeting for March this evening at 6:00 PM.

The session will commence with a tribute to the West-Oak Warriors High School Wrestling Team, followed by public hearings on key ordinances. These include Project Red’s tax agreement and a proposal for a budgetary increase. The council will also discuss enhancing security at the Oconee County Courthouse and a highway safety enforcement grant.

However, the highlight of the meeting will be the progress updates and investment plans for the Golden Corner Commerce Park. The council is considering a substantial investment in the park to make it attractive to potential employers.

Two spending matters related to the park are on the agenda. Kershaw Contractor Services is expected to be awarded a $2.9 million contract for mass grading at the park. In addition, Terracon Consultants, a Greenville-based company, is set to receive $73.5 thousand for conducting construction tests such as fill placement and density testing for the grading project.

To offset these costs, the Oconee Economic Alliance has secured external grants, including a $1.5 million reimbursable grant from the State Commerce Department and a $1 million reimbursable grant from the South Carolina Power Team.

The remaining costs, amounting to $787 thousand, will be covered by local funds from the county’s economic development capital project millage fund. This comprehensive financial plan aims to prepare the currently vacant commerce park for business.

The meeting is open to the public.
