Oconee County Council Met Tuesday Evening

The Oconee County Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday evening in Council Chambers at Walhalla. The council held public hearings for two ordinances that were on the agenda. The first ordinance authorized the execution and delivery of a fee-in-lieu of ad valorem taxes and special source revenue credit agreement between Oconee County and Project Iron Man, revealed to be Itron, which is planning to invest $100 million and create 200 jobs in the county…

The second ordinance authorized the issuance of general obligation bonds, not to exceed $25 million, for the purpose of designing, acquiring, constructing, installing, equipping, or rehabilitating various capital projects, including wastewater improvements and related equipment…

The council voted to approve both ordinances on third and first reading respectively. The council also discussed and considered several action items, such as brush grinding options at the C&D Landfill, grant and performance agreements for Akasol, Inc., lifting a portion of the hiring freeze, placing the Walhalla Middle School Resource Officer under the supervision of the Sheriff, and supporting the application for the South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism “Undiscovered SC” grant for the further development of the Foothills Farmstead. The council went into executive session to discuss personnel matters, legal advice, and an economic development matter. prior to adjournment.
