Oconee County Council Votes to End Mask Ordinance May 30

Members of the Oconee County Council voted to end the local mask ordinance on May 30th, one month earlier than before it was originally scheduled to expire.

Council member Julian Davis made a motion to move the date up from June 30th, citing the speed and efficiency with which area residents have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

He was opposed by Council member Paul Cain who stated he believes “COVID-19 is by no means under control in Oconee County.” Cain added that with new strains of the virus developing, he feels there’s a need to keep the mask ordinance in place.
