Oconee County Habitat for Humanity’s West Union Build

Oconee County Habitat for Humanity (OCHFH) plans to build 27 affordable homes in West Union, adjacent to 14 existing Habitat homes. This is part of their largest infrastructure project in their 37-year history, which includes engineering, grading, and installing roads, sewers, and water lines.

The organization has launched a $500,000 capital campaign for these infrastructure costs, which cannot be passed on to future homeowners. The homes will be built on 10.13 acres of undeveloped land purchased in 2018, with construction potentially starting in January 2025.

The project, considered Phase 2 of OCHFH’s West Union build, follows the completion of Phase 1 in 2022, which saw the construction of a 14-house community. The new homes will benefit the local community by increasing foot traffic and sales for businesses and providing stability for families. The homes, typically 1,150-1,350 square feet in size, will be sold to qualifying residents with a 0% interest loan. For more information, visit Oconee Habitat for Humanity.
