Oconee County Planning Director Seeking Public Input as County Drafts Comprehensive Plan

(Seneca, SC)————–The Oconee County Planning Commission is seeking public input as they draft a Comprehensive Plan for Oconee County, a plan which in effect lays out a road map of where the County is now and what the County may look like in the next five to ten years. Adam Chapman, who is the Planning Director for Oconee County, was a guest on the Coffee Time program recently and he gives us an overview of what the Comprehensive Plan is.

Chapman says the Comprehensive Plan is mandated by state law and counties are required to have one. State law requires that certain elements or chapters must be in the Comprehensive Plan and County’s can make the plan as detailed or broad as they want. Chapman says that County Council wants to take time and effort to make a 10 to 15 year plan that really means something and a plan that provides a framework for County growth.

One way citizens can express their thoughts and comments regarding the Comprehensive Plan is to address the Planning Commission during their monthly meetings during the first and third Monday’s of the month at 6pm in Council Chambers in Walhalla on Pine Street.
