Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Announces Arrest of Westminster Man on Charges Related to Armed Robbery Investigation

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the arrest of a Westminster man late last week on charges related to a December 2020 armed robbery investigation.

24 year old Cody Austin Grant of Lakeside Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 1:46am last Friday on outstanding warrants charging him with Armed Robbery Armed with a Deadly Weapon and Petit Larceny.

On January 7th of this year, the Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 42 year old William Roger McGuffin of Old Well Road in Westminster on charges of Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime, Petit Larceny and Armed Robbery Armed with a Deadly Weapon in relation to the same incident.

The charges against McGuffin were obtained after an investigation into an incident that occurred on Durham Brown Road in Fair Play during the early morning hours of December 16th, 2020. During that incident, McGuffin is accused of assaulting a male occupant with a handgun after the male exited a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. McGuffin then stole the vehicle by use or threat of force while armed with the same weapon.

Based upon evidence that was gathered in the case, it was determined that Grant had driven McGuffin to the Durham Brown Road location, with Grant also having knowledge of a crime that was going be committed. Investigators obtained arrest warrants against Grant charging him with conspiring and acting in concert with McGuffin in commission of the Armed Robbery and the Petit Larceny.

Grant was released from the Oconee County Detention Center after posting bond this past Saturday. Grant was given a combined $20,000 surety bond.
