Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Announces Creation and Debut of The Deputy Podcast

In order to continue the outreach efforts to the residents of Oconee County, as well as to those who have an interest in all things law enforcement, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the debut of the first episode of The Deputy – The Official Podcast of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office (SC).

“Last year, the Sheriff and I had some discussions on how to increase our outreach with our citizens beyond our social media sites and our website,” says Master Deputy Jimmy Watt, Public Information Office and the host of The Deputy podcast. “Part of that discussion morphed into several feature stories that we have released since late in the summer of last year. Another aspect of that discussion was the recording and distribution of podcasts and after a lot of work, we are happy to announce that our podcasts are now up and running.”

The first podcast was uploaded last Friday through the Buzzsprout hosting site and a new episode is scheduled to be uploaded every two weeks, with episode two set to debut on Friday, July 30th. The first two podcasts will feature interviews with Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. In fact, episode two with Sheriff Crenshaw will focus on law enforcement reform. Once uploaded, podcasts will remain online for a period of 90 days.

The Deputy will focus on the personnel and operations that make up the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, however, the Podcast will also feature the relationships with agencies and organizations that help make Oconee County a safe place to live, work and play. For example, episode three is scheduled to feature a conversation between Master Deputy Watt and Danielle Pankuch from the Keep Oconee Beautiful Association. Episode three is scheduled to be uploaded on Friday, August 13th.

The Sheriff’s Office has been working to have the podcast listed on many of the major podcasting sites and the podcast is now listed on many of those sites. Already, The Deputy has been downloaded via podcasting sites such as Spotify, Google Podcast, Deezer and iHeart Radio. The Deputy podcast can also be heard and downloaded on the internet at https://theofficialocsoscpodcast.buzzsprout.com/. The online address for a particular podcast and/or the podcast website will also be shared in posts on the Sheriff’s Office official Twitter and Facebook sites as well.

“We decided to call the podcasts The Deputy because the deputy is the backbone and foundation of any Sheriff’s Office,” says Master Deputy Watt. “Every four years, whether a new Sheriff is elected or the current Sheriff is re-elected, deputies have to take a new oath of office that is administered by the duly elected Sheriff. As Sheriff Crenshaw mentioned in the first episode of The Deputy, the Deputy Sheriff is an extension of the elected Sheriff and in the absence of the Sheriff, the Deputy is acting on the Sheriff’s behalf. The Deputy gets his authority from the Sheriff.”
