Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Fair Play Woman on Breach of Trust Charge

(Walhalla, SC)———————The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fair Play
woman yesterday on a Breach of Trust with Fraudulent Intent charge.

48 year-old Virginia Lea Driver of Dairy Farm Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 4:30pm. At this time, Driver remains in custody pending a bond hearing.

An investigator with the Criminal Investigations Division began an investigation on Monday after speaking with the victim who had met Driver, and one of Driver’s employees, at Tribal Bail Bonds in Walhalla.

The victim was attempting to obtain bond, through Tribal Bail Bonds, in order to bond her husband out of jail so he could attend a family funeral. The victim was given a written receipt for $1,500 on February 23rd .

According to evidence obtained by investigators, Driver told the incarcerated man, on February 25th , that she sent the money to the bonding commission in order for them to send her the bond. Further investigation revealed that Driver told the man, on another occasion, that the funds were tied up with the insurance company and it may be a few weeks before a refund could be obtained.

According to the arrest warrant, the bond was never posted nor was the money returned to the victim. Investigators have determined that Driver used the money for her own personal use. The wife of the incarcerated man was able to obtain bond through another company in order to obtain his release.

Investigators are seeking to determine if there were other Breach of Trust victims who used Tribal Bail Bonds.

Even though they may have been charged with unrelated crimes, any additional victims are still welcome to come forward should they be victims in this investigation.
