Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Four in Recent Burglary and Larceny Investigation; Issues Safety Tips for Vehicle and Property Protection at County Recreation Areas

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the arrest of four subjects on charges of Grand Larceny and Second Degree Burglary related to the theft of a Yamaha Motorcycle.

On November 30th of this year, a deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division met with the victim at an address on Seneca River Road near Seneca in reference to the stolen motorcycle, a blue and white 2009 Yamaha TW 200 dual sport dirt bike.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office. As the investigation continued and evidence was gathered in the case, the investigator obtained arrest warrants for Grand Larceny and Second Degree Burglary against four suspects, all of whom have been arrested and remain in custody at this time at the Oconee County Detention Center:

• 29 year old Kimberly Dawn Mize of Seneca

• 35 year old Joshua Andrew Nations of Six Mile

• 29 year old Jeffrey Ray Mauldin of Seneca, who also had an outstanding General Sessions Bench Warrant

• 24 year old Brittany Elizabeth Dagostaro of Seneca

Dagostaro and Mauldin were arrested early Monday morning by a deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division, while on routine patrol, after the deputy executed a traffic stop on a 20 foot white in color box truck who had entered the Friendship Boat Landing access off of Coneross Creek Road near Seneca and Townville.

“The Sheriff’s Office has increased our patrols in and around the recreation and boating areas in the County over the last few weeks due to reports of vehicle break-ins,” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “The break-ins occurred to vehicles that were parked in the parking areas while the owners and passengers had gone boating or were enjoying the water for other recreation activities. The water recreation and tourism activities are enjoyed by our citizens and visitors to our county and we want them to enjoy these activities without the fear of being a victim of a crime.”

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is recommending the following vehicle and property safety tips for citizens and visitors to protect their vehicles and property at the recreation areas in Oconee County:

• Never place valuable items in plain sight in your vehicle or leave those items at home when you travel to a recreation area.
• If you need to bring items of value while your enjoy recreational opportunities on the Oconee County lakes and rivers, only bring those items that you truly need (such as a driver’s license or picture ID, your cellphone in case of emergencies and a debit or credit card and some cash). Keep those items with you and never leave them in your vehicle.
• Make sure you vehicle is locked and properly secured before you leave to boat or fish or enjoy other recreation activities.
• If you vehicle is broken into, contact the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible. Insurance companies often require a report to be filed for damage to a vehicle related to a crime. In those cases as well, restrict access to your vehicle so evidence can be obtained that is fresh and not contaminated. Any evidence collected can increase the possibility that the crime could be solved and charges levied against those responsible.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
