Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Man on Attempted Murder Charge
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing today the arrest of a Seneca man on a charge of Attempted Murder after responding to a Seneca area address late Tuesday evening in regards to a shooting incident.
56 year old William Dale Smith of Corinth Drive in Seneca has also been charged with Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime. Smith was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 5:07 pm Wednesday.
Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division were dispatched around 11:18 pm Tuesday to the Corinth Drive address in regards to reports of a shooting incident. The deputy made contact with individuals on scene, including Smith, and began an investigation.
According to information gathered during the investigation by deputies, the incident began as a verbal altercation with Smith later on producing a firearm. According to warrants obtained by deputies, Smith fired the gun at one of the individuals inside the home. The victim was not struck and the round discharged from the gun hit a wall in the home.
Deputies collected evidence from the scene, including the firearm and remaining ammunition in the gun. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Detention Center.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. At this time, Smith remains in custody at the Detention Center on a combined $260,000 surety bond.
