Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Man on Multiple Charges; Includes Two Counts of Receiving Stolen Goods

(Walhalla, SC)————————————–The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man yesterday on multiple charges, including two counts of Receiving Stolen Goods.

32 year old Kenneth Allen Barkley of Fairfield Drive was also charged with one count each of Driving under Suspension, Driving an Uninsured Vehicle and a Habitual Traffic Offender.  All of the charges against Barkley were written on Uniform Traffic Tickets.

A deputy responded during the late morning hours of June 5th to Greenleaf Self Storage on Shiloh Road near Seneca and met with the victim in regards to a utility trailer that was stolen earlier that morning.  Based upon evidence gathered during the investigation, a male subject drove behind the storage units and was seen hooking the trailer up to a black ‘90’s model Honda Passport that had dark, tinted windows.

The tag that was located on the Passport was reported stolen out of Pickens County.  The victim told the deputy that the trailer was a black 5’x10’ Superior Trailer brand 3500 pound axle with wooden flooring and plywood walls with a high gate in back and mounted tool box on front.  Also located on the trailer was a rake, shovel and various tools in the tool box.

Yesterday morning, a deputy observed a vehicle on South Walnut Street near Seneca, which was a 1996 Honda Passport, that matched the description of the one involved in the theft of the utility trailer.  The vehicle pulled into a business on Wells Highway and the driver, later identified as Barkley, exited from the driver’s side.

The deputy made contact with Barkley.  Dispatch advised the tag on the vehicle was reported stolen out of Pickens County.  The Passport was towing the trailer that was stolen from the storage facility.  According to the deputy, the sides and the tool box on the trailer appeared to have been removed.  The trailer was identified by the owner and turned over to him.  Barkley was also discovered to be driving with a suspended license.

Barkley was arrested and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 12:09pm yesterday.   Barkley was released earlier today from the Oconee County Detention Center on his own recognizance.  He was given a combined $8,337.50 personal recognizance bond.
