Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Man on Trafficking in Cocaine Charge

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man late last week on a Trafficking in Cocaine – 3rd or Subsequent Offense charge after a traffic stop in Seneca.

33 year old Darren Bernard Gibson of Linda Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 2:01am Friday. At this time, Gibson remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a $100,000 surety bond.

Late last Thursday evening, a deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division on routine patrol observed a grey Dodge Challenger on the Utica Mill Hill. The deputy checked with dispatch regarding the Texas license plate on the vehicle, upon which the deputy was notified that the tag came back to a Dodge truck.

The vehicle turned into a driveway on E. S. Sixth Street near Coleman Avenue where the deputy initiated a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Gibson, and detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The deputy requested assistance from a second Uniform Patrol Deputy.

A search of Gibson’s person produced a quantity of narcotics in a plastic bag, which was identified as cocaine. During the investigation, Gibson attempted to run from the deputies but he was taken into custody and placed under arrest. The vehicle that Gibson was operating was towed from the scene.
