Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Westminster Man on Trafficking in Methamphetamine Charge – 3rd or Subsequent Offense

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster man over this past weekend on a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine – 3rd or Subsequent Offense.

62 year old Thomas Richard Cannon of Honea Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 6:30 am last Saturday. Cannon was also charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana.

A deputy from the P.A.C.E. (Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement) team was on routine patrol late last Friday night in the Salem area and responded to assist a deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division with a traffic stop on Crestwood Drive. The Uniform Patrol deputy initiated the traffic stop due to a traffic violation. The deputy from the P.A.C.E. team had been patrolling in the area due to complaints of narcotics activity.

The driver, identified as Cannon, gave consent for the deputy to search his vehicle. A second deputy from the P.A.C.E. team assisted with the search of the vehicle. The search of the vehicle produced a quantity of narcotics, methamphetamine and marijuana, inside of the vehicle. Cannon was placed under arrest and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center.

At this time, Cannon remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center. Cannon was given a $150,000 surety bond on the Trafficking in Methamphetamine charge and a $615.00 personal recognizance bond on the Simple Possession of Marijuana charge.
