The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Connelly Springs, NC man in relation to a Wednesday evening pursuit that came to a conclusion in the southern part of the county.

23 year old Theodore Adrian Montejo, of W. Meadow Space Trail, has been charged with one count each of Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving an Unattended Vehicle, as well as two counts of Malicious Injury to Property.

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau of the OCSO responded, for mutual aid purposes, to assist deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office after the conclusion of a pursuit along I-85 southbound Wednesday evening. When deputies arrived, they observed a vehicle accident involving a marked Anderson County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, which occurred on I-85 near exit 2. The vehicle, a 2020 Dodge Charger, was operated by a deputy from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau also responded to where the pursuit terminated, which was Lake Hartwell State Park, which is on Highway 11 near I-85. At that scene, the deputy observed a marked Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Ford Explorer, which was stolen and operated by Montejo, which caused damage to a gate at the park. Also on scene was a marked Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Dodge Charger.

Montejo was taken into custody by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in a wooded area near Lake Hartwell after running on foot. Both Montejo, and the Anderson County deputy involved in the accident on the Interstate, were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Based upon evidence that was gathered during the investigation by the OCSO, Montejo has been charged with using the stolen ACSO vehicle, which he was operating, to ram the vehicle occupied and operated by the ACSO deputy. The action by Montejo caused an accident, which led to multiple lacerations to this right fingers, palm and arm of the ACSO deputy, according to an arrest warrant.

Montejo has also been charged, by the OCSO, with leaving the scene of an accident. After ramming the Law Enforcement vehicle on the Interstate, Montejo left the scene in the stolen law enforcement vehicle and eventually abandoned the vehicle, as he ran on foot, from Lake Hartwell State Park.

Montejo also caused damage to the vehicle access control gate at Lake Hartwell State Park, where the pursuit concluded, according to an arrest warrant.
