Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Charges Oconee Woman with Attempted Murder after Weekend Incident

Investigators from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office have charged an Oconee woman with Attempted Murder today after a Sunday evening incident near Oakway.

Wanda Maria Harvey

41 year old Wanda Maria Harvey, who has listed addresses in Mountain Rest and Westminster, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 11:24pm Sunday on a Temporary Custody Order.  Harvey has also been charged with one count of Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime.

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to the intersection of West-Oak Highway and Snow Creek Road yesterday evening in regards to reports of a stabbing.  When deputies arrived, they observed the victim lying in the roadway.  Pressure was applied to a wound in the victim’s neck while paramedics were called to the scene.

According to information obtained during the investigation, Harvey was being taken back to her residence in Oconee County, from a residence in Anderson County, where she had been staying, due to her being in an intoxicated state and acting belligerently.  Harvey was in the backseat of a silver 2019 Dodge Charger with another backseat occupant, who was the victim.  There were two other occupants in the vehicle, the driver and a front seat passenger.

Based on evidence obtained during the investigation, Harvey cut the victim on her neck, with a knife, which severed an artery.  The knife was recovered by deputies nearby.

The victim was transported by paramedics to a landing zone, where the victim was then transported by helicopter to the hospital for further treatment.

Due to the nature of the crime, the victim’s name will not be released.  Also, due to health safety and privacy concerns, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any information regarding the patient’s condition or which hospital the victim is currently admitted to.

At this time, Harvey remains in jail on a combined $120,000 surety bond.  The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
