Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Charges Philadelphia, PA Man with Murder

A 25-year-old Philadelphia, PA man has been charged with Murder, and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime, after an investigation into the death of a woman.

David Delgado, Jr., of Loretto Avenue, is in custody at the Chesterfield (VA) County jail,
pending extradition proceedings, after his arrest there on local charges.

At this time, there is no danger to the public, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The body of the victim, a 26-year-old Seneca woman, was discovered this afternoon near the intersection of Wells Highway and Porsche Lane, near Highway 123 and Seneca. Her death is presumed to have occurred on Monday evening.

She is identified as Ajhai Yvonne Taraya Gambrell

Ms. Gambrell died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the neck region.  

Her manner of death is classified as a Homicide.  

The Sheriff’s Office investigation began after a deputy responded to an address on S. Gate Drive, which is near Carson Road, Monday evening in regard to blood discovered inside of the residence. The deputy spoke with the family members, who stated that they had left the residence to go to Anderson late Monday afternoon, leaving Delgado, Jr. and the victim at the residence.

When the family members returned to the residence during the early evening hours Monday, they observed Delgado, Jr. hurriedly exit the residence and get into a vehicle, a 2000 silver Chrysler 300, and speed away as attempts were made to get him to stop by a family member.

A family member told the deputy that upon entering the residence, blood was observed inside of the house. Additional deputies, along with Crime Scene Technicians and Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Bureau, arrived on scene and began to collect evidence from the residence. The family attempted to contact the victim, who was not at the residence upon their return from Anderson but was unsuccessful in speaking to her. An initial arrest warrant was obtained against Delgado, Jr. for Use of a Vehicle without
Permission with Intent to Deprive.

The arrest warrant was entered into the National Crimes Information Center database. The victim’s information was also entered NCIC as a Missing Person since the victim could not be located.

According to the arrest warrants, Delgado, Jr. shot the victim in the upper body with an AR-15 rifle and disposed on the body. Delgado, Jr. and the victim were in a relationship and had been staying at the S. Gate Drive address for about a month, according to Investigators.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
