Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Continues Investigation into Sunday Interstate 85 Shooting Incident

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a shooting incident that occurred late Sunday afternoon along Interstate 85 in the southern part of the county.

At around 5:30pm Sunday, the E-911/ Communications Center received a call in reference to gunshots that were fired from a vehicle into another vehicle, on the interstate, that was occupied by two adults and two children. The shooting occurred on I-85 southbound between mile markers 1 and 2, which is between Highway 11 and Highway 59.

The adult female inside of the vehicle sustained injuries. At this time, based upon evidence gathered so far, the incident is being investigated as a road rage incident. The victim was transported to the hospital via a medical helicopter. Investigators are continuing to
follow-up on leads and gather evidence this morning.

Based upon further investigation, investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a dark in color, either black or navy blue, BMW SUV X-5 or X-6, with the model year being around 2017. Investigators also believe the SUV was occupied by a black male and was traveling towards Georgia after the shooting occurred.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. Due to the nature of the crime, and out of respect for health privacy and safety of the victim and her family, the victim’s name will not be released nor her condition nor the names of the other family members that were inside of the vehicle.
