Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Files Attempted Murder Charge in Friday Evening Shooting

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant against a Walhalla man as a result of an investigation into a Friday evening shooting near Tamassee.

The Sheriff’s Office has charged 47 year old Nathan Fred McCall, with one count of Attempted Murder. McCall is accused of attempting to cause the death of the victim, with premeditation, by shooting a gun and striking the victim in the head, according to the arrest warrant. The arrest warrant has been entered into the National Crimes Information Center database.

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to an address on Horseshoe Lane Friday evening in regards to reports of a shooting incident. Deputies made contact with the victim, who had a wound on top of his head. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injury and the investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

Based on evidence that was gathered, McCall was identified as a person of interest in the
investigation. Investigators and deputies then went to McCall’s home address nearby in order to make contact with him.

After attempts to contact McCall failed, and with the belief that he might be barricaded inside his home, the Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. was activated. After further attempted contacts with McCall failed, the S.W.A.T. made entry in the residence but McCall was not inside.
