Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Receives Award for 2019 Law Enforcement Target Zero Challenge

-The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office recently received an award for participation in the 2019 Law Enforcement Target Zero Challenge.

The award, presented by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Network, recognizes the Sheriff’s Office for achieving the Silver Level Award. Awards were handed out based on the size of the agency involved and certain criteria, such as the number of traffic safety checkpoints and number of citations written.

According to Lt. Tommy Crompton of the Special Operations Division, Target Zero is a campaign through a Law Enforcement Network grant which assisted the Sheriff’s Office with its traffic enforcement activities, such setting up traffic safety checkpoints, for example. In order to be eligible for the grant, the Sheriff’s Office agreed to be involved in traffic safety campaigns, such as the Sober or Slammer Campaign and Buckle Up South Carolina.

According to Lt. Crompton, the main goal of the yearlong campaign of the Target Zero Challenge is ultimately to reach zero traffic deaths throughout the state of South Carolina.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office was the host agency for the 10th Circuit, which covers Oconee and Anderson counties.
