Oconee County Shooting Suspect Caught In Stephens County, GA

UPDATE:

27 year-old Devan Chavis Bennett was apprehended in Stephens County, GA near the Toccoa Airport Thursday evening around 7:30 pm. Bennett was wanted by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime in relation to a shooting incident that occurred on Spartan Drive Wednesday afternoon and sent a woman to the hospital with multiple wounds. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will begin extradition proceedings today.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is searching tonight for an Oconee County man who has been charged after a shooting incident that occurred this afternoon.

Investigators are seeking the public’s help in locating 27 year old Devan Chavis Bennett, who has listed addresses in Westminster and Seneca.  Bennett has been charged with one count each of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime.

Deputies were dispatched to an address on Spartan Drive, which is located in the southern part of the county in the Foxwood Hills Subdivision, around 2:04pm this afternoon in regards to reports of a shooting.  When deputies and investigators arrived on scene, they discovered a female who had been shot.

The female was transported to the hospital.  The victim’s name, condition and hospital admission location are not being released at this time by the Sheriff’s Office due to safety and/or privacy concerns.

As the investigation continued and evidence was gathered in the case, investigators obtained arrest warrants this afternoon against Bennett for shooting the victim multiple times while being in possession of a firearm.
