Oconee Heritage Center looks to fill Donation Jar

The failure of the 1-cent capital project sales tax leaves the Oconee Heritage Center more than $400,000 short to renovate and improve its facilities. But the downtown Walhalla museum has not given up, explains Oconee Heritage Center curator and director Leslie White, “Since the sales tax referendum didn’t pass we are left with finding another way to figure out how to fund our over $400,000 worth of project needs, so we decided to start with our donation jar, which is pretty sizeable. If people still want us to have their pennies, we would love to have them, so if they want to come by during our open hours this week, Thursday and Friday from 12-6pm and Saturday, 10am-3pm and drop off what they have that would be great.” The goal is to fill that jar with change by Saturday, Nov. 15.
