Oconee Shooting Stars looking for New Members

The first, all ladies gun club in Oconee County is looking for new members.  Oconee Shooting Stars was established in May of 2012 with eight members including three range safety officers.  Sharon Williams, vice president of Oconee Shooting Stars tells about becoming a member.  “Right now we are open for new membership.  You can just look on our website or contact us at [email protected].  Just contact us with your mailing address and we can send out an application and a packet that gives more information about the club.  It gives you some of the safety rules and the basic rules of the club.  We will also send you an application to fill out and send in to us.” The club’s mission is to educate it’s members and the general public regarding the safe handling and use of firearms, adds Williams. “A lot of women in Oconee County, myself was one of them, I lived in a home that had several guns in the house but I knew nothing about them.  I didn’t know how to fire a gun.  I didn’t know how to handle a gun.  I didn’t even know how to move it safely from one place to the other when I was cleaning house, so women need to know this.” Oconee Shooting Stars offers women ongoing safety instruction with NRA Certified Instructors and Range Safety Officers both on the range and in the classroom. Through education and proper training, Oconee Shooting Star’s goal is to foster and advance fellowship and good sportsmanship among all members as well as to serve the community.  Oconee Shooting Stars is hosting a meet and greet fundraiser on July 16 from 5-8pm at Zaxby’s on Sandifer Boulevard in Seneca.
