Oconee’s Golden Corner: A Beacon for Work, Play, and Investment

The annual State of Oconee luncheon, held on Friday, celebrated Oconee as the “Golden Corner” of the state, an ideal place for work, leisure, and investment. The event, attended by around 200 individuals, took place in the cafeteria of a new public school in Seneca, which is set to open its doors to students in August. Attendees were given a preview of the accomplishments made possible through public funding.

Dr. Michael Cory, Principal of the new Seneca Middle School, guided faculty, staff, and students through the complex, constructed by Trehel Corporation. He also kicked off the speaker lineup. Inside the school’s cafetorium, about 200 attendees listened to Oconee’s economic development recruiter forecast imminent investment announcements in the county…

Jamie Gilbert of the Oconee Economic Alliance revealed that three upcoming announcements are slated for county council review this week. Additionally, the county is among the four finalists for a project, with the decision expected next month. Gilbert also discussed a 148-acre site on Sandifer Boulevard, west of Wal-Mart, planned to be a shopping center. He anticipates an official announcement later this year and predicts the anchor stores will be of such high quality that residents will no longer need to travel to Greenville or Anderson for shopping.
