OHC announces Venue Changes

Due to the failure of the air conditioning units at the Oconee Heritage Center in downtown Walhalla, venue changes are being announced for some upcoming programs. The program entilled, “J is for Jocassee and K is for Keowee” takes place on May 30 from 2-4pm at the Oconee County Public Library’s Walhalla Branch, which is located at 501 West South Broad Street. “Due to our HVAC system issues, we have changed the venue for our ABC’s of Oconee program J is for Jocassee and K is for Keowee to the Walhalla Branch of the Oconee County Public Library. The program will be in the activity room, which is located at the entrance to the library. J is for Jocassee runs from 2-3pm and features Debbie Fletcher, author of Whippoorwill Farewell and Images of America: Lake Jocassee. She will tell the story of what it was like in the Jocassee Valley before Duke Power’s construction of the lake. Fletcher will share the wonderful memories of Attakulla Lodge, Jocassee Camp for Girls, and other anecdotes. Then from 3-4pm, K is for Keowee, featuring Jerry Vickery, author of The Forgotten Society of the Keowee River Valley, will examine the history of the people that lived in the rural, agricultural community that is now lost under the waters of Lake Keowee,” said OHC executive director Leslie White.
