Ongoing Pre-Trial Proceedings in Walhalla Murder Case

A case involving a young man accused of murdering a woman in Walhalla last summer is still in the pre-trial phase. Recently, a judge instructed the city police to present evidence to aid the defense in preparing their case. The defendant, Gilbert Nava, age 19, appeared in court in prison attire and remained silent as Judge Maddox directed the investigation to adhere to Rule 5 of court procedures.

Nava, who lived in the Seneca area, is facing charges for the murder of Cruz Cantero, which took place on August 8 at Cantero’s residence on Pitchford Street, Walhalla. Blair Stoudemire, the assistant solicitor, informed our sister station WGOG that among the ongoing murder cases in Oconee County, this one is relatively recent.
