Over 250K Emergency Calls last year in OC

Do you think that your phone rings a lot? Well, its nothing compared to the amount of calls received at the Emergency 911 Center of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. “Last year in our 911 Center, our telephone range 252,447 times. Our weekends continue to be the busiest times for Law Enforcement when we receive our greatest number of calls.” Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said last year’s numbers also show more people using cell phones in the county. “A slight uptick in the number of 911 calls that we received from cell phones that increased from 80% up to 82%. I think we are seeing more and more of our citizens use their cell phones as their primary means of communication and doing away with their landlines.” Sheriff Crenshaw reports that Oconee County dispatch continues to be ahead of the national standard requirements for 911 calls answered within 10-20 seconds.
