Part-timer hired for Gignilliat Wellness Center

After examining the rising cost of healthcare in the United States, the City of Seneca decided to start encouraging city staff to get healthy. Initially the city offered incentives for employees to quit smoking, loose weight and eat healthy. Now the city is increasing efforts to get employees to exercise by offering extra hours at the Gignilliat Wellness Center by hiring a new part-timer, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander. “Over the last several years, we have put a lot of emphasis on getting healthy, loosing weight, taking care of yourself, getting into some type of fitness program and right now we things in place where you can get advice from physicians, different staff members and people that can actually help you be able to get on a good program. The part-time position will be at the Gignilliat Wellness Center, which will actually be a person that will help welcome people, give information out, watch the equipment and if anything is needed, they will be able to contact the appropriate people. That program has really grown a lot this year.” The Gignilliat Wellness Center offers city staff a place to get healthy. It is complete with several weight lifting machines as well as cardio equipment. The Seneca City Council incorporated the center in an effort to lower the cost of health insurance for employees.
