PCSO Says Man Pleads Guilty to Sex Crimes, Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said that in September of last year, Detectives began investigating allegations of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor involving a registered Sex Offender named Avery Lee Cooper Smith (age 23).

Detectives received information indicating that Smith was knowingly disseminating explicit messages to an underage juvenile via Snapchat. When questioned by detectives, Smith admitted to sending sexual material to an underage child using various social media sites. Smith was charged and arrested in October of 2021.

On 09/15/2022, Smith pled guilty to Criminal Solicitation of a Minor – 1st Offense, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor – 1st Offense, and Sex Offender Registry Violation (Failure to Provide Internet Information – 2nd Offense).

As a result, Avery Lee Cooper Smith was sentenced to seven (7) years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
