Phone Scam targeting Clemson Residents

Upstate residents are being warned about another fraud. Authorities report a caller claiming to be a police officer is asking for money for failure to respond to jury duty. The caller is now targeting residents in the City of Clemson. Clemson City Police Chief Jimmy Dixon said nine to 10 calls were received on Saturday where the caller claimed to be an officer. Chief Dixon said the caller claims the person who answers has failed to respond for a jury duty notification and an arrest warrant has been issued for them. He said the caller then tells the victim if they get a $2,000 Green Dot debit card, they can clear up the matter and dispose of the warrant. This is not a matter handled over the phone and Chief Dixon asks that anyone who receives a similar call, to call police and not give out any personal information, nor purchase a debit card for any amount of money. Police report the caller is using a blocked number.
