Pickens County Schools Facing Lawsuit Over Book Alleged to Teach CRT

A lawsuit has been filed involving the Pickens Co. school district, the NAACP, and the ACLU of South Carolina over the removal of the book, “Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism and You” from all Pickens County school libraries and classrooms.

The book was removed following complaints from parents alleging that it teaches Critical Race Theory. Despite a review committee deeming the book appropriate, it was removed after an additional review involving parents.

The NAACP filed the lawsuit in response to this decision. The case was initially dismissed by the district court due to insufficient details but has since been sent back by a Federal Court of Appeals for reconsideration.

The future of the case is currently pending with no set date for the next district court hearing.
