Pilot Injured in Plane Crash Near Seneca

A small engine plane crashed near Seneca around 6:55pm Monday evening behind a home in the vicinity of Goddard Avenue, Planters Drive and Wells Highway.

According to officials, the pilot, reportedly from Georgia, was the only person on board the Grumman American AA-1 aircraft, and was flown to a Greenville hospital for what were described as serious injuries. The plane apparently lost power and was upside down when it crashed, according to witnesses.

Seneca Police, The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, Oconee Emergency Services, Prisma Health and Seneca Rescue 1, as well as firefighters from Seneca, Corinth-Shiloh and the Friendship Fire Departments all responded within minutes to the scene.

The FAA and the NTSB are in charge of the investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
