Pilot Missed Approach Before Crash into Lake Hartwell, According to NTSB Report

A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board states that the pilot who died last month in a Lake Hartwell crash had been cleared by Anderson air traffic control, but missed his approach several times.

Pilot Todd Carrell was killed when the plane he was flying from Florida to Anderson on September 10th crashed into the lake about nine miles south of the Anderson Regional Airport.

The report indicates that Carrell was asked by an air traffic controller if he was experiencing trouble with his equipment, and he reported his gyro instrument was malfunctioning.

Carrell’s body was recovered five days after the crash, when investigators were able to remove the aircraft from 120 feet of water.
