Prepare Now for Winter Driving

With an estimated 656,000 South Carolinians expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving holiday, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office encourages motorists to take some proactive steps to ensure safe travel on the road. Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt says now is the time to winterize your vehicle. “Just bear in mind in the winter season any water that is on the roadway with temperatures below freezing obviously is going to freeze and it can develop that sheet of black ice. So, make sure you get your car winterized for the winter driving season.” Watch out for black ice when temperatures drop below freezing. Be extra cautious on bridges because surfaces freeze sooner.
