Rainfall Amounts differ throughout OC

Depending on where you live, rain fell heavy or light Monday night in Oconee County, says Official U.S. Weather Observer Barbara Wilson. “I recorded this morning .47, just under half an inch but I do know in spots even a couple of miles away it was a lot more, so we are going to have spotty showers throughout the week it sounds.” Rainfall amounts may differ where you live; Wilson recorded these figures from her weather station in Walhalla, which is about one-mile from the county seat. More rain is needed to lift Oconee County out of severe drought status, continues Wilson. “For the month we are right at three and half inches so far, which is great that was better than last month and I think in February too. But we are still down total. We should have probably four and half to five inches each month and we have not had that as I recall so far this year, so we are going to need to still have more rain.” Wilson and her family, the Brandts, have been recording the weather from Walhalla for the National Weather Service for over 100 years. They are the longest active weather watchers and volunteer reporters for the National Weather Service.
