Recent Local Land Acquisitions Recorded

Duke Energy has recently purchased 2,000 acres of land in Salem, South Carolina. This acquisition is part of the company’s strategy to support and potentially enhance the capacity of the Bad Creek pumped-storage facility.

Following recent upgrades that boosted the facility’s capacity by 320 megawatts, Duke Energy is now considering additional expansion opportunities. The total cost for the land acquisition in northern Oconee, which amounts to a few thousand acres, exceeds $15 million. Several county property owners are participating in these transactions, selling their properties. The largest transaction involved approximately 1,700 acres.

In another significant local land purchase, a high-value deal has been recorded in Oconee County. Documents filed with the county Register of Deeds on Wednesday reveal the sale of nearly 611 acres on the Old Clemson Highway. The sale price was recorded at $12.2 million. The seller was West Clemson LLC, and the buyer was East Shore South LLC.
