Record setting July rainfall

More rain feel in July this year than any other year on record in Oconee County.  U.S. Weather Observer Barbara Wilson gives the month-end rain count. “For July this year we’ve had 15.13 inches, that is a record for July.  The one that was the wettest until now was in 1984 and it was only 13.5 inches.” This summer has been unusually wet, adds Wilson.  “The unusual part is this is not due to any tropical depressions or hurricanes as some times it may have been and this is really unusual for this time of the year.  January through June we had a total of 43 inches, which was really unusual.  So, adding that together so far this year we have had 58.13 inches of rain and that is more than some years that we have had.” Wilson is a retired Walhalla school teacher and her family has been keeping weather records for Oconee County since WWI.
