Recycle your Old Eyeglasses

The residents of Oconee County like to recycle. According to DHEC’s Solid Waste Management Annual Report, Oconee County is one of only three counties out of the state’s 46 to exceed the state’s recycling goal of 40% in Fiscal Year 2013. The Seneca Lions Club hopes this news inspires residents to start recycling their old eyeglasses too, explains publicity chair Jim Atkinson. “It could be sun glasses but it has to one that is a prescription that kind of thing. We are asking for prescription glasses. So far this year, 310 of those are on there way from Seneca and from the Salem Club, 489. Therefore, that is another one of the things that you do that we do. After being donated here, then the glasses go to Columbia get checked out and then down to Florida to go overseas.” Prescription eyeglass can be donated in a box located at the Walmart on Sandifer Boulevard in Seneca. Donated glasses assist the Lions Club in their international mission of hearing and sight conservation. Glasses are sent to third-world countries around the globe.
