Red Flag Fire Alert lifted

Improving weather conditions canceled a Red Flag Alert over the weekend in South Carolina.  The S.C. Forestry Commission reports higher relative humidity values mean conditions are less dry, coupled with calmer winds makes it less likely that fire will spread. However, the Southeast remains in the midst of wildfire season and care should be taken with all forms of outdoor burning to prevent wildfire starts. During the Red Flag Alert, Firefighters responded to 51 fires statewide. Some local jurisdictions may have yet to lift a burning ban. Check with local fire officials before conducting any type of burn. State law requires anyone planning to conduct debris burns or controlled burns to notify the Commission in advance.
