Relax this Holiday Break says SDOC

Now that school is out for the holiday break in the School District of Oconee County (SDOC), administrators encourage students to spend time with family and friends. Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Ginger Hopkins says take a break from school work and enjoy the holidays. “We really do want folks to have a true break, teachers and students have been working hard. We had our high school students just wrapping up mid-terms, there have been a lot of extracurricular activities going on, and it has been a busy, busy time with a lot of hard work going on. So, these next two weeks we are hoping that our students and staff will truly take a break, enjoy their families, enjoy their friends, catch up on some sleep, get some fresh air, read a book for fun, and essentially just not do school work for two weeks. I know that is hard to believe that the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction would say that but there really is value in sometimes stepping away and taking a real break. We want students and staff to come back ready to hit that second half of the year strong and ready to go because we will have a lot to do as we gear up for those spring exams and we want to do our best on those.” Oconee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland says rest can be very beneficial. “One problem that I see in today’s world with kids is that we are just too busy and we don’t give them enough time just to be kids. Just enjoy some leisure time playing with friends and not be so structured where they are going to practices and events every minute of every day, so I think rest would be good for all of us.” Students, teachers, and staff return to school in the SDOC on Jan. 4, 2017.
