Remember to Hydrate during Summer Heat

As temperatures rise this summer, remember to hydrate during the heat. Dr. Doug McGuff with Ultimate Exercise in Seneca says if you must be out in the heat this summer drink plenty of water. “If you have to work out in the heat or if you are a construction worker or someone who has to be outside during the hot part of the day, really hydrate with water and I recommend Pedialite and really push your hydration and be careful.” Dr. McGuff encourages physical exercise be done in the morning during the summer months. “In the heat you do have to be careful and the interesting thing and I can say this from my work in the emergency department is that heat exhaustion, heat fatigue, heat cramps, etc. sneak up on you. So, you really do have to be vigilant and if you are someone who partakes of exercise or recreational activities outdoors, I would just be vigilant to do it in the morning time before it really heats up.” Exercise in the afternoon and early evening stresses the body more during the summer because heat has been absorbed all day into the ground and temperatures can still be quit high.
