Reported Shooting Under Investigation

Oconee County deputies are investigating a report that a man was shot.

Master Deputy Jimmy Watt with OCSO says the call came in around 2:15 p.m. this Sunday afternoon at an address on Qualls Hill Drive, near the Madison community. Investigators and paramedics are currently on scene.

Roger Qualls, 63, died at the scene from a gunshot injury, according to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office, who added that an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. 

This incident is currently classified a homicide.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone who may have been traveling on Highway 123 between Jenkins Bridge Road and the South Carolina/Georgia line between noon and 4pm today to contact the Sheriff’s Office if they observed any suspicious vehicles or a white male and a white female that may have walking on foot.  The Sheriff’s Office would also ask our citizens to report any other suspicious activity to the Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency as conditions warrant.
