Residents Of South Fairplay Street Address Seneca City Council Regarding Request To Change Zoning On Property Of Proposed Housing Development

(Seneca, SC)—During Tuesday night’s Seneca City Council meeting, Council approved on first reading a request to rezone property on S. Walnut Street in order to build homes as well as a request to rezone property on S. Fairplay and S. Townville Street’s at South 7th Street for a 34 unit housing development.

During the meeting, Bill and Jane Foster, who live on S. Fairplay Street, addressed Council during the public comment session with their concerns on the proposed development in regards to the ascetic looks of the proposed development, the traffic impact and the effects on the character of the neighborhood and the area.

Mr. Foster said that there has been a lot of renewal in that area in the 40 years that he has lived there and most of the houses are built on property of at least half an acre or larger.

“Planning laws and zoning regulations are to help protect neighborhoods and hopefully maintain their integrity,” says Mr. Foster. “That’s where I have issues with this zoning request. I don’t believe that it does either one of those.”
