Retirement Drop-In for Chief Jones This Friday

The City of Westminster will host a retirement drop-in for Police Chief Rory Jones on Friday, September 3 from 9am-11am at the Depot.

Everyone is encouraged to stop by, have some refreshments, and wish Rory well in his retirement.

Chief Jones has served as the Westminster Police Chief since September 28, 2012. He began his career in law enforcement in 2001 with the Walhalla City Police Department.

“Chief Jones was the first department head I meet with on my first day in Westminster, he was forthright, cordial and professional. Since that first meeting he has continued to epitomize those characteristics,” said Kevin Bronson, Westminster City Administrator.

From tragic accidents to investigating criminal activity to tirelessly serving the underprivileged, his work as a Police Chief has often transcended his job description.

Chief Jones stated: “I have worked in Law Enforcement most of my adult life, while doing so I have missed a lot of time with my family. I have now come to a point where I have my service time in, and a proud new Poppi to two wonderful grand-babies. I have decided that I do not want to miss any more than I have to with them. I have gladly put my  everything into this career, hoping I could make a positive difference in someone’s life. I hope in doing so this has created a legacy that my children and grandchildren can be proud of. My experience in law enforcement has been a blessing from God, and I consider it an honor that He allowed me to be a peace keeper in this wonderful county! My plans for the future are still unknown, but I have considered running for Oconee County Probate
Judge. This will be a decision I will pray about with my Family.”

The Westminster Police Department has one K-9 unit, and eight sworn officers. The City of Westminster covers 3.4 square miles and has a population of 2,673.
