Roadway Fatalities holding Steady in the Tri-County Upstate

Roadway fatalities are holing steady in the tri-county area of Upstate South Carolina through the first three and half months of 2017. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Anderson County has experienced 13 deaths in 2017 compared to 15 in 2016 at this same time. Pickens County lists five in 2017 and four in 2016. Oconee County reports three in 2017 compared to six in 2016 at this same time. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports that as of April 16, 264 people have died on state highways, compared to 275 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Of the 186 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 95 were not wearing safety belts. Through midnight April 16, 41 pedestrians have died compared to 38 in 2016; 26 motorcyclists have died compared to 35 in 2016; and five bicyclists have died compared to nine in 2016 on state roadways.
